Climpact network has produced and offers freely a series of datasets about climate change
Publication: 03-11-2021
The data were produced by the nationwide phone survey carried out by the National Centre for Social Research (EKKE) during November-December 2020. The survey was conducted on a representative sample of the Greek population aged 18-65 years old , using structured questionnaire. It was aimed at identifying the views and attitudes of the Greek citizens regarding the climate change and its impacts. 1201 phone interviews were conducted with Greek residents. The response rate was 24,5%.
Open-access data will be available until December 2022.

Mapping of the urban areas of Athens, Larissa and Rethymno into Local Climate Zones (LCZ). Data are available as raster images at a 100 m resolution.
The LCZ classification system [(Stewart & Oke, 2012)](https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/bams/93/12/bams-d-11-00019.1.xml) divides cities into discrete zones with specific urban form and function characteristics. Using remote sensing data, digital elevation models from the Hellenic Cadastre, and GIS data, we first derived urban morphological parameters, including the building height, the vegetation...

Time series of warm spell events using climate indices (1961-2021) for the cities of Athens and Larissa. Data include the first and the last day of each warm spell, and aggregate statistics about its intensity. Warm spell days were detected using the climate indices CTX90pct and CTX95pct.
According to the climate index CTX90pct [(Perkins & Alexander 2013)](https://doi.org/10.1175/JCLI-D-12-00383.1), a warm spell event occurs when the maximum temperature exceeds for at least 3 consecutive days its 90th percentile for the base period. The 90th percentile ...

In the framework of Action 2.1 "Data from aquatic (marine and terrestrial) ecosystems related to climate change", the Photo-Catalytic Processes and Environmental Chemistry group of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos", focused on the study of the history of harmful algal blooms in aquatic ecosystems of Greece.
One of the effects of climate change is the more frequent occurrence of harmful algal blooms in surface waters, which are mainly favored by the global warming, the eutrophicatio...

The file includes calculations of the daily values (mean, maximum, minimum) of two widely accepted indices of thermal discomfort, Thom’s Discomfort Index (Thom, 1959) and Humidex (Masterton and Richardson, 1979), from 1901 until 2024, for Athens, Greece. The calculations of indexes were based on the use of hourly temperature and relative humidity values from the historic climate station of the National Observatory of Athens (the oldest climate station in the country) located at the Hill of Nymphs in Thissio (latitude: 37.972 N, longitude: 23.717 E, altitud...

Collection of paleoclimate proxy data, to create spatio-temporal paleoclimate restoration fields, with the aim of understanding mechanisms of significant climate changes in the last 2,000 years. Nar Lake δ18O data (Jones et al. 2006) provide indirect information on the amount of precipitation through the precipitation-evaporation balance. The Ti (cps) record of Lake Neor (Sharifi et al. 2015) determines the aeolian input to the regional peatland of Lake Neor that increases during dry periods. The high-resolution Ti/Ca record of the stratified coastal lake ...

One of the objectives of Action 2.1 "Data from aquatic (marine and terrestrial) ecosystems related to climate change" was to propose a management protocol of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in order to protect public health from exposure to the risk of cyanotoxins. Cyanotoxins released into lake water by toxic cyanobacteria are a large group of compounds with diverse physicochemical properties, chemical structures and toxic effects (hepatotoxic, neurotoxic, dermatotoxic, cytotoxic). International organizations such as WHO, US EPA and the Global Water Research ...

Data time-series of ~20 years (1997-2018)of seagrass Posidonia oceanica annual production covering sixty sites across the Greek Seas. For the same time period, annual sea surface temperature and sea surface temperature of August data are also given.
Publication: 16-05-2025
The time-series dataset includes flowering data (presence/absence of flowers) of Posidonia oceanica meadows across 58 sites in Greece, covering the period from 2007 to 2021. For each site and and year within the study period, the following variables are also provided: Maximum sea surface temperature during summer, cumulative intensity of summer marine heatwaves, maximum intensity of summer marine heatwaves and heatwave category (Moderate - Extreme).
Publication: 15-01-2025
The dataset includes time-series data on the annual production of the seagrass Posidonia oceanica from 2007 to 2021, covering nine sites across the Greek Seas. During the same period, satellite- derive records of annual sea surface temperature, sea surface temperature of summer (average for July to September)and maximum sea surface temperature are also provided.
