The file includes calculations of the daily values (mean, maximum, minimum) of two widely accepted indices of thermal discomfort, Thom’s Discomfort Index (Thom, 1959) and Humidex (Masterton and Richardson, 1979), from 1901 until 2024, for Athens, Greece. The calculations of indexes were based on the use of hourly temperature and relative humidity values from the historic climate station of the National Observatory of Athens (the oldest climate station in the country) located at the Hill of Nymphs in Thissio (latitude: 37.972 N, longitude: 23.717 E, altitud...

The dataset includes daily values of total solar energy received by a horizontal surface in the Athens area, expressed in MJ/m², covering a 20-year period from 2001 to 2020. The calculations were based on data from the actinometric station of the National Observatory of Athens in Thissio (latitude: 38.972° N, longitude: 23.717° E). For each of the days under consideration, the values of the total incident solar radiation on a horizontal surface were collected at 1-hour intervals, expressed in W/m², where, using an appropriate integration method (the trapez...

Zooplankton was collected at 10 stations in the epipelagic zone from 200 m up to the surface layer by vertical hauls (0.5m s−1) of a WP-2 standard net (Hydrobios) with 200 μm mesh size. The nets were carefully rinsed and the samples were halved, on board with a Folsom splitter. The first half was used for dry mass biomass determination and the other half was preserved in a seawater sodium tetraborate buffered formaldehyde solution (4% final concentration) for later determination of zooplankton composition and abundance. This data collection was funded by ...

Hourly values of hydrological data in the area of Antikythira strait, produced by a marine mooring deployed by HCMR. The monitoring instruments have been positioned at two depths: a) Close to the bottom (approximately 875 m) and b) At intermediate depth (325 m). The mooring site is found at latitude 35ο 36.8 N and longitude 23o 32.3 E.

This dataset contains blue carbon data from monospecific Posidonia oceanica meadows in the South Aegean Sea, including the Saronikos Gulf, the Cyclades Archipelago, the Dodecanese Archipelago and Crete Island. The dataset includes information from 42 sampling sites and 123 sediment cores collected between 2013 and 2023.
The file provides sampling-site information, geographic coordinates, water depth, sampling year, sediment-core characteristics, core compaction, slicing resolution and laboratory processing methods. It also includes mean values for sedimen...

The files include daily observations of mean, maximum and minimum air temperature, mean daily values of relative humidity and daily precipitation amount since 1901 in Athens. The data are derived from the historical climatic station of the National Observatory of Athens (the oldest climatic station of Greece). The station has been permanently established atT hissio, on the small Hill of Nymphs (latitude: 37.972 N, longitude: 23.717 E, altitude: 107 m above MSL) near the centre of Athens since the late 19th century, without relocations over the years. The ...
